Part 1: Read-Aloud
Begin by reading “The Wind Blew” by Pat Hutchins (available on YouTube).
Part 2: Discussion
- Ask the students what they know about the wind.
- Walk the students to a window and ask if the wind is blowing.
- Discuss how they can tell if it’s windy or calm.
- Explain that today, they will learn more about the wind.
Part 3: Mobile Activity
- Show students a mobile featuring characters from the book.
- Have students guess how close they need to be to make the mobile move using their breath.
- Start with the mobile far away, allowing each person a turn to make it move by blowing toward it.
- Encourage teamwork to create more wind and move the mobile together.
Part 4: Summary
Today, the students explored the wind. They can now think about wind conditions when they go outside—whether it’s a windy day or calm. Being prepared for outdoor activities, like flying a kite, involves considering the wind.
