The AMA's Heavy-Lift Challenge Is a Unique Model Aviation Experience for 2024!

The AMA Education team is excited to open registration for the 2024 season of the Heavy-Lift Challenge, a program that develops flying skills, meteorology knowledge, and engineering abilities. The competition offers flexibility in scheduling and site selection, and participants are automatically enrolled in a Ground School course for support.

The Academy of Model Aeronautics is a nonprofit organization that supports model aviation enthusiasts through various departments, including Member and Club Services, Government Advocacy, and Publications. The Education Team provides resources such as the AMA Education Blog, UAS4STEM Sponsored by Skydio Blog, and engaging lesson plans for both elementary and preschool students.

The FAA/AVS STEM Career Symposium is a virtual event promoting careers in aviation and STEM education. The AMA participated with a livestream presentation and a digital booth, sharing their history and educational resources. The booth was the sixth most visited out of fifteen.

Registration for the Heavy-Lift Challenge 2024 Season is OPEN!

The AMA Heavy-Lift Challenge for the 2024 season is now open for registration. Teams of 2-4 students in grades 6-12 will modify a Horizon Hobby S 2 1.1 AeroScout to deliver water for local wildfire response efforts. The registration fee is $199 and prizes up to $10,000 are available. All registrants must be AMA members and complete the AMA Ground School coursework. Registration closes on April 1, 2024.

Going to Trade School Instead of College? You Are Now Eligible for an AMA Scholarship Too!

The Academy of Model Aeronautics Foundation is offering scholarships to a wider range of students, including those attending trade schools, to support their education and career in model aviation and related fields. The scholarships, totaling over $1.3 million, are open to applicants who have been AMA members for 36 months and meet other eligibility criteria. The Charles H. Grant Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors, with the number and amount of scholarships awarded depending on the applicants' qualifications.
