If you’re like me and have test phobia, you do not go out of your way to get involved with anything that ends up in a quiz, test, or even “knowledge check”. But after experiencing The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST), I now realize this might be the easiest part of flying a drone.
The TRUST test is required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for all people who want to fly a drone for non-business, recreational purposes. The entire training, along with the 23 “knowledge check” questions can be completed in 20 minutes.
If you do choose a wrong answer (as I did), you have multiple chances to go back and get the answer right. In fact, you are required to choose the correct answers before you will be permitted to advance through the training/test.
I don’t know why I get confused about the term “first-person view (FPV) but that has always tripped me up. After missing that question and shaming myself for it, I will not forget that FPV is when I have the goggles on to view the roving drone. Otherwise, I am watching my drone without goggles, and this is called line of sight.
Flying a drone can take a lot of practice for the average beginner like me. Understanding the rules and safety measures involved just takes a little time and reflection.
